Farriery
David Seal, Farriery apprentice

I have always had a great passion for horses and love working outside in the fresh air as I couldn’t bear the thought of sitting in an office all day. A career in farriery seemed like a logical progression as I enjoy working with metal. I also have the opportunity to travel around the countryside working with my favourite animals.

I have recently finished a one-year pre-farrier course and I have just started a 4-year Modern Apprenticeship. On completion of my apprenticeship I will have also obtained the Diploma in the Worshipful Company of Farriers.

My work as an apprentice involves travelling around farms and stables to help to shoe horses. Once the visits are made, I go back to the forge to make shoes and do some welding and blacksmithing.

With more hard work and commitment I will complete my apprenticeship and continue to work outdoors in the countryside.
