Floristry
What is floristry?
Floristry is primarily about designing, creating, retailing and delivering imaginative floral displays. But it also about the wholesale buying of flowers, sundries and associated products. The floristry industry is generally made up of small businesses, many of which are linked together by large relay organisations such as Interflora, Teleflorist or Flowergram.
The UK fresh cut flower and indoor plant market is worth over £1.5 billion, which means that each person spends an average of £26 per year on cut flowers and indoor plants. Off this, 60% represents people buying flowers for themselves.
Did you know…?
- There are approximately 6,780 floristry businesses in the UK
- These businesses employ around 28,700 people… would you like to be one of them?
What opportunities are there for me?
You could find yourself providing flowers for a variety of events such as christenings, weddings, funerals and birthdays, and even large-scale conferences and state occasions. As businesses tend to be small, you may be involved in other aspects of running a floristry business such as sales, marketing, personnel, accounts and stock ordering.
